The Hitchcock Railway is my G-Scale garden railroad. It is set in the late 1890s somewhere in the Rocky Mountains. The area is rich in silver, so mining is the primary industry. In addition to several mines and a mill, the railway serves the small towns of Hitchcock, Lucas, and Speilberg.

This is my second garden railway. The first was about five years old and almost finished, as these things go. So we moved. Our new property was perfect for the home we would build, but a challenge for an outdoor layout. The lot was filled with trees. And since it was the trees that made the lot unique, we decided none would be lost because of the railroad. The result is a layout that runs around and through our backyard forest.

The Hitchcock Railway was an opportunity to improve on my first layout, and there were many things I wanted to do differently. Foremost was to build almost everything from scratch. I wanted to create a railway with its own distinct character.

Now more than 20 years old, the railway is showing its age and is in need of continual repair and rebuilding. Model railroading is as much obsession as hobby.

If you’re in Minneapolis, please plan to visit The Hitchcock Railway. We run trains Sundays from 1 to 3 PM in June, July and August.  Until then, enjoy this site. Feel free to contact me with questions or comments. I’d like to hear from you.
